Want help shaping your future?
The Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Activity Center is designed to offer you a range of education-based, fun activities to implement into your Day. The program intended for girls and boys ages 8 to 18 introduces participants to the vast range of potential job opportunities, while asking children to consider how their future work will fit into their overall lives.
The Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Foundation wants to hear from educators about their Day. Whether you are a coordinator at a college or a school educator who participates in the Day, please send us any agendas, activities/curriculum, or photos you have developed and we may feature them on our website.
Each year activities are created, offering participants new material to introduce to girls and boys on Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day. Utilizing these activities will help you produce a results-oriented program. The activities, which have been designed by the Families and Work Institute (FWI) and Helping Kids Thrive (HKT), do the following:
- Encourage girls and boys to think now about how their dreams for the future-both for their work and family lives- can be achieved.
- Increase youth’ understanding of the way work life and home life often overlap and that all aspects of life need to be managed.
- Allow youth to learn more about job titles and what specific jobs entail.
- Increase their critical thinking, communication, writing, and reading skills.
- Promote positive identity and aim to increase youth self-esteem.
- Allow them to express themselves through writing, art, and discussion.
- Provide the opportunity to learn about different people and the importance of teamwork.
- Challenge youth to think beyond common stereotypes about men’s and women’s’ roles both on and off the job.
The activities are meant to be fun, allow for lots of conversation, and engage girls and boys in thinking about work and home life in ways they may never have before. They are designed to be easily adaptable to accommodate a variety of age groups and workplaces. Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent, a small business owner, or executive of a multi-billion dollar corporation, you can coordinate Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day. Suggestions on how to adapt the activities to meet your logistical needs are offered.
Whether you choose former Activity Guides, where you will find a collection of activities that can begin, end and sustain your day; School-Based Curriculum, activities designed to meet national education standards; continue the valuable learning experience, and Online Activities, where girls and boys can participate simultaneously with thousands of other participants on Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day; or National Activities, offering a glimpse into what workplaces across the country are doing and other important activities that encourage continued participation in math and science, build self-esteem, etc.; you and your volunteers have a range of choices to facilitate the day. Have fun and mix them up!
